INTERNET SECURITY
Use of Cookies
Cookies are small files containing information that our website transfers to your PC's hard drive via your web browser software. Cookies can store information about your preferences and other information which you need when you visit a website. FGB uses cookies to monitor our website traffic, to ensure better service levels and in order to provide you with certain features such as the customised delivery of certain information. To prevent the use of cookies you should activate the facility which is available in most web browsers that enables a user to deny or accept cookies.
Safeguarding your personal information is important to us. We have implemented the following measures to enhance the protection of your personal information.
Secure Socket Layer
Secure Socket Layer or SSL is a protocol for transmitting information securely via the Internet to prevent it being tampered with during transit. SSL works by using a private key to encrypt data that is transferred over the SSL connection. The protection strength of SSL is determined by the bit length. Currently, First Global Bank uses 128-bit encryption. Most Internet browsing software, including Netscape Navigator 4.7 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, support SSL, and many web sites use the protocol to transmit confidential information provided by consumers, such as credit card numbers. By convention, web pages that require an SSL connection start with https: and not the traditional http :.
Authentication
Authentication is the process of identifying an individual, based on a unique username and password. Authentication ensures that the individual is who he or she claims to be. Authentication techniques are used when customers access their FGB account on-line.
Authorization
Authorization is the process of allowing the individual access to the appropriate data, after an individual has been properly identified by an authentic user name and password.
Encryption
Encryption is a method of scrambling information while it moves from one source to another, that protects the contents. First Global Bank uses encryption to protect sensitive information. To read an encrypted file, you must have access to a secret key or password that enables you to decrypt it. Unencrypted data is called "plain text," encrypted data is referred to as "cipher text."
Firewall
A firewall is designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination of the two. Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet. Firewalls are designed to protect sensitive customer data. Firewalls are used by FGB directly or indirectly through contracts with third party vendors.
PHYSICAL SECURITY
All servers involved in gathering, storing, and providing the data to you are operated in a secure data center that has restricted access to authorized personnel only. Our data center is monitored 24 hours per day and only certified employees are permitted on premises through the use of a picture ID and electronic access. A record is kept of all personnel who have entered the secure data center.
Access to servers requires multiple levels of authentication and sensitive data including your access credentials and account numbers are always stored in encrypted format at all times.
Our employees are made aware of our security policy's procedures and practices through their acceptance on a yearly basis that they have carefully reviewed and abide by it.
