What is the difference between a debit card and a credit card?

A debit card is a “Buy Now, Pay Now” option, which means to make purchases you need to have sufficient funds in your account at the time of purchase. Whereas with a credit card you “Buy Now, Pay Later” based on a credit line extended by your bank.

What do I need to do before I use my card for the first time?

You should ACTIVATE your card and ensure that a PIN is assigned before attempting use. After successful activation, you are ready to start using your card anywhere VISA is accepted.

How do I activate my FGB VISA Debit Card?

There are two options for activation:

  1. Visit your nearest branch and speak with a Customer Service Representative
  2. Visit our website at www.firstglobal-bank  and activate your Card using our online banking platform, Global Access

Will I get a new PIN with my Debit Card?

No, for added security the bank will NOT be sending you a pre-assigned PIN. You will be required to set your FGB Visa Debit Card PIN while activating your card in-branch or via our online banking platform, Global Access.

Is it mandatory that I provide a mobile number to use my FGB VISA Debit?

No. However to ensure that you receive important updates including transaction alerts it is encouraged that you maintain your current mobile number on the Bank's records at all times.

Can I use my old PIN number for my replacement card or do I have to create a new PIN?

Yes. To activate your replacement card, you will have to create a PIN. However, you do have the option to reuse the PIN currently being used on your FGB Secure. Please refer to the above activation instructions, or call us on 1-888-225-5342.

Will my VISA Debit Card have the same number as my existing FGB Secure Debit Card?

No. Your VISA Debit Card will have a new card number.

What will happen to my existing Debit Card after I receive my replacement card?

Your existing FGB Secure Card will work in conjunction with the VISA Debit Card, however there will be a time when your FGB Secure Card will be deactivated. You will be notified at a later date when this will be done.

Are there any limits on the use of my FGB VISA Debit Card?

Your FGB VISA Debit Card enables you to use up to the "Daily Purchase Limit" and "Daily ATM Limit", as long as you have sufficient funds in your account or you are within your agreed overdraft facility. However, you can request a change to the Daily Purchase Limit by calling us at 1-888-CALL FGB (225-5342) or by visiting your nearest FGB branch (terms and conditions apply).

Will my Debit Card purchases appear on my account statement?

Yes. When you make purchases with your FGB VISA Debit Card, all transactions will appear on your account statement. Having all your transactions in one statement will help you better manage your account balances.

Will I be charged extra for using my FGB VISA Debit Card abroad?

Overseas POS transactions will attract an overseas POS fee. Overseas ATM cash withdrawals will also incur an international ATM withdrawal fee, which will be detailed separately on your statement.

What happens if I enter my PIN incorrectly at merchant terminals or ATMs? Will the merchant terminal/ATM capture my card?

Three wrong PIN attempts will lock your PIN and your card will be temporarily unusable, however your card will not be captured. For assistance call FGB at 1-888-225-5342. Kindly note that you may encounter merchant terminals in Jamaica and overseas that do not require a pin, you will however be required to sign the transaction receipt.

Will I have access to all my accounts when conducting transactions?

Unlike the multilink card, FGB’s VISA Debit Card allows you to choose the account you would like to debit at the ATM.

What should I do if I cannot remember my Visa Debit Card PIN?

Visit the nearest FGB branch for assistance.

What happens if my card is lost, stolen or misused?

Please call us immediately at 1-888-225-5342 if you discover that your card has been lost, stolen or misused.
